Highland Builders has been incorporated since 1993 and is based in the Newport Area. The company was started by Westall Deane and Gilbert Pires.

In the beginning, Highland Builders was a collection of subcontractors, building homes for larger contractors in the area. After accumulating experience and a static team of subcontractors, Wes and Gil decided to create a new company and began contracting their own projects. In 1998, they began working with elite architects in the area. Highland has built award-winning homes in many South County towns in RI along with homes in MA from Westport up the coast through Cape Cod. Many of these homes have appeared in publications and received significant recognition.

In 2016, Wes became the sole principal of the company continuing to work on high design residential projects.

In 2021, Highland Builders expanded its skills when Mallory Demty, a registered architect, joined the company. Wes and Mallory collaborated on a project in East Bay before joining forces and expanding to provide Design-Build services. The company now has the capacity and talent to take visions from conception to reality with one team. Design-Build has proven to be a more enjoyable process as builder and designer are linked from the first phase of the project.

Highland continues to take on conventional builds working with architects.
